RESPONSIBILITIES
Management-related:
Develop, implement, coordinate and improve the quality management system (QMS) for the Ammunition division, for both commercial and military markets, in alignment with the broader company QMS.

Manage 50+ person including quality supervisors, multi-shift, multi-building Quality Department responsible for quality engineering, quality planning and inspection of ammunition in a high production, high product mix manufacturing environment.

Ensure all quality team personnel understand quality metrics, priorities and daily goals.

Ensure division is prepared for third party or customer quality audits, including governmental quality assurance representatives.

Execute and maintain a safe work environment for all employees. Monitor activities making certain that the department is compliant with company environmental, health and safety program.

Constantly increase departmental effectiveness by training, coaching, mentoring, celebrating successes, addressing performance shortfalls and by maintaining consistent and timely methods of communication.

Develop and maintain training protocol, certification of quality tasks and management of quality leaders.

Oversee the recruiting and retention efforts required to ensure the Quality Department’s staffing is in place to support continued growth and meet business needs.

Develop and maintain effective, professional and team-based working relationships with a variety of people, including employees, supervisors, executive team and members of other departments.

Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations and assist the quality leadership in the same tasks with thoughtfulness and thoroughness.

Handle the development, discipline and termination of employees in conjunction with Human Resources in accordance with company policy.

Quality-related:
Analyze, evaluate, develop action plans and present information regarding quality as it relates to business situations, production capabilities, manufacturing problems, economic trends and design and development of new products for consideration by other members of management team.

Consider and suggest alternative methods and procedures in solving problems and meeting changing market opportunities, in commercial and military markets.

Ensure alignment of quality program with company ISO 9001:2015 registration criteria

Suggest modifications to quality assurance programs to refine areas of responsibility, personnel requirements and operational procedures.

Evaluate contents of reports from product assurance program and confer with top management personnel prior to formulating manpower and fiscal budgets for the product assurance program.

Work with Quality personnel to establish, delineate and review program organizational policies, to coordinate functions and operations between departments and to establish responsibilities and procedures for attaining objectives.

Work with international and domestic suppliers through a team of Supplier Quality Engineers to push quality management up-stream to suppliers. Collaborate with suppliers and supply chain/purchasing team to develop and implement supplier agreements.

Visit and confer with representatives of material and component vendors to obtain information related to supply quality and vendor quality standards.

Confer with engineers about quality assurance of new and existing products to rectify problems. Work with New Product Development and Engineering to define product specifications and testing procedures/requirements for all ammunition products.

Organize, track, and report key performance indicators (KPI’s) for the ammunition division on a monthly basis and assure alignment with company quality and goal tree objectives.

Review operations and confer with technical or administrative staff to resolve production or processing problems. Improve and roll-out production tracking and supportive quality metrics.

Support new product introduction and work within cross functional groups to assure smooth transition from development into production.

Support and drive the company Continuous Improvement program, kaizen events, 5S culture and lean manufacturing.

Review technical publications, articles, and abstracts to stay abreast of technical developments in industry.

Perform as quality management systems management representative when required by contract or third-party certification bodies.



Requirements

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline

10+ year’s quality management experience in a multi-site manufacturing environment, including 3rd party registrations and audits.

Experience in industries such as metal forming/stamping of firearms, ammunition, automotive or aerospace…..in very high-volume environments.

Knowledge of ERP systems (Oracle preferred).

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

Prior experience in application of military standards and specifications in a production environment….a plus
